I
guess I've reached an age when I have decided it's just a number and doesn't really
matter. Some people with big numbers have very immature souls and vice-versa,
some with little numbers have already experienced enough to cover a few lifetimes,
and vice-versa. Born
in Boulder, Colorado, but having lived in many different places (from VT, MASS,
NH to WY, AZ, CO, NM, WA, OR) Heather went to 15 different schools and has lived
in teepees, tents, trailers, school busses, shacks, and more recently nice houses
in the country. Always active, her early school
sports included rock-climbing and mountaineering, backcountry powder-hounding,
kayaking, soccer and equestrian. College took her to Colorado Mt. College where
she studied commercial art and graphics and was alsoon the alpine ski team. I
graduated both high school and college with honors in academic/creative achievements. "After
college ski racing, I switched to telemark ski racing. At the end of two years
I won the Colorado regional finals, Utah regional finals and the US telemark Nationals.
I then switched to snow-boarding and briefly competed for one season. I qualified
for ameteur nationals in Vail Co. where I took 3rd place in the half pipe, and
2nd overall half pipe/slolam/GS in my division." She
moved to Oregon to windsurf in '88 and with her husband started Shred
Alert. After sailing every day, they worked at night making hats in their
laundry room. But times have changed and, 16 years later, Shred
Alert is headquartered in downtown Hood River, with 10-13 employees and sells
world wide. "I have 3 incredible children 9, 7,
and 5. You can find me skating with them at the local skate park, or dirt-biking
with them at the track or on the many amazing trails in our local woods. My latest
sports passions are kiteboarding, and dirtbiking. I love thelearning process in
the beginning especially of new sports. Thelearning curve is so steep, and the
gains every session huge, exciting, and rewarding." Heather
is a role model for women everywhere working to juggle and balance family, business,
and personal life. "I would like to inspire my
kids and others to live life to it's fullest enjoying and savoring every moment
for whatever it is--good, bad, painful, wonderful. What a gift we have, it is
our obligation I think to make the absolute best of what we are given, and share
with others." | |
