Your Stories: Kiteboarding

Sport Interests:  I am an avid horse rider.  Competing with my horse and training him to become a better jumper is how I sometimes find the most quiet moments--the kind that we all dream of having just once in our lives.  Because my family business makes fins for surfboards, wakeboards, kiteboards, and windsurfing boards, I am also very drawn to the water.  For a few years I helped run the windsurfing event at Waddell Creek until kiteboarding came into the picture.  Not long after I started to learn to kite and loved it.  Going to Maui on my honeymoon, I took lessons everyday.  I spent every morning waiting for my lesson to start and went to bed every night dog tired.  In the winter, I snowboard in Tahoe.

How I got started in sports:
I grew up in Santa Cruz and spent many hours at a place called the Hook.  The Hook is where I have many memories of playing in the sand and learning to surf.  Just down from my house at Pleasure Point made it a perfect spot for my parents to take me.  I got my horse bug when I was little.  The rebel of the family for wanting a sport that had nothing to do with water, I was granted my first horse at age 12.  I never looked back.  All the other sports that I do; snowboarding, kiting, wakeboarding and motorcycle riding (to name a few) all come from just wanting to learn new things and play as hard or harder then I work.

Athletic achievements: Kiteboarding at Waddell Creek. Getting Reserve Champion on my thoroughbred Jack at the Pebble Beach horse show.

Athletic goals:  Maybe I should set my goals higher and be the first women to win Mavericks.  I think I could do that.

Inspiration: Wonder Woman, of course.  She looks hot and slays the bad guys with only a thin gold rope.

Philosophy:  Be a good example to others, laugh and have a good time, and always go big no matter what you do.

Favorite spot to do my sport:  Surfing: The Hook; Kiteboarding: Waddell Creek; Riding: Loma Alta Farm or the beach

Favorite Girls4Sport wear: Yoga pant jersey and my halter rashguard (paradise print).  This is the perfect outfit to go from casual to out to the club.

What I do when I’m not in the water:  I ride my horse, ride my motorcycle, or take my two Labradors (Moto and Dozer) to the beach.

My job:  I manage the chaos of running my family business: Rainbow Fin Company.   There are many days that I wonder what I am doing this all for.  Then I get a call from a customer that makes me laugh, and then I go to the beach and walk with my bare feet in the sand, go kiting with my husband Dave, get a hug and kiss from my horse and hang with my friends.  Being a part of something much larger then myself is a huge adventure in life.

Education:  College business classes with a minor in science.  I thought about being a dental hygienist, but then realized that I love being outside and being part of watersports.

Interesting/unusual facts about me: I am terrified of heights.  I know that is crazy but with all the sports I do, but I can't get too high. I also have a strange collection of music.  Most people would not have in the same mix: Black Eyed Peas, Ribseys Nickel, and Dixie Chicks.
